The Friends of Huddart & Wunderlich Parks promote environmental awareness and community participation in our parks. They assist park rangers in maintenance and conduct educational programs to promote the preservation and enjoyment of parks. On the dates below, come hike with the Friends in the parks they are passionate about:
Family Hike at Huddart Park
This hike is designed for families with children five years of age and older and is not suitable for jogging strollers. We will connect the Chickadee and Redwood nature trails for a distance of about 2 miles. Along the way, we be on the look out for banana slugs and turret spider nests, giant redwood trees and woodrat nests and rattlesnake grass. This is a great hike to learn about the basics of the mixed redwood forest.
The hike will take about two hours. We will meet at 2pm at the parking lot just inside the entrance kiosk. There is a $6 parking fee. Rain or shine.
Family Hike at Wunderlich Park
This hike is designed for families and children of all ages. The hike is a 1.5 mile loop. Children are encouraged to come with their parents and jogging strollers are welcome. We will learn about the wonderful plants and animals that live here. This hike, which will take about 1.5 hours, is rated easy with a gradual climb of a few hundred feet. Meet docent Tom Davids at 2:00 PM at the stable. Rain or shine.
10 to 2 Hike with the Friends
You are invited to join in this hike which will feature the history of Wunderlich Park. From 1841 when John Copinger received a land grant of 12,545 acres to 1974 when Martin Wunderlich gifted 942 acres to San Mateo County to be used as a park, this property with beautiful stands of mixed redwoods, madrones and oaks attracted loggers and farmers... the poor and needy and the rich and famous. Meet docent Tom Davids at 10:00 AM at the stable, bring a sack lunch. Rain or shine.
