Concession & Boarding Management

Folger Stable rental and lessons concession are managed by Chaparral Country Corporation.

The San Mateo County Parks Department has been leasing a portion of Wunderlich Park in Woodside since 1974 for the purpose of providing horse boarding, training, riding lessons and trail rides. Chaparral has been a provider of horse activities in Milpitas since 2009 and provides services to Santa Clara County Parks, California State Parks, Los Gatos and San Jose. The management and staff of Chaparral have extensive experience in working with horses, owners and riders and are known for providing safe and reliable experiences to the public.

Recreational Activities

Recreational activities provided at Folger Stable include trail rides, camps and pony rides for children, and lessons for all abilities in both Western and English style riding. Read below for more information, including rates.

Trail rides

Come join for a trail ride through the beautiful tree lined hills of Wunderlich Park. Beginner to advanced riders can enjoy the 17 miles of all weather trails year round. Wildlife and nature abound.

1 hour - $80.00

1.5 hours - $110.00

  • Longer rides are available
  • All rides are by reservation only. Beginning Trail rides are walking only
  • Riders must be 8 years old
  • Hemet required for anyone under 18
Lessons

For beginners to advanced.

Students will learn all basics of riding including but not limited to safety around the horse, steering, stopping, turning, sitting trot, posting trot, proper balance, control of the horse, tying, mounting and dismounting, placement of saddle, grooming, proper body positioning and much more.  All lessons will be tailored to riders ability.

Pony rides

These are led in a round pen. Children can learn to help steer the horse. For ages 2 and up.

$20.00 for 15 minutes

Camps

Camps are designed for rides of all levels. Students will be divided into groups according to age and ability. Camps are a fun way for the students to make new friends and have the unique ability to bond with a special horse. Students will learn to groom, saddle, unsaddle, lead, halter, mount, dismount, parts of the horse, history of the horse, and much more. Students ride at least 1 hour per day.  On Friday a student show demonstrates what has been learned during the week.

Weekly camp - $750.00 per student

 

Horse Boarding

Chaparral provides full stable management services including 24-hour supervision and care of boarded horses, riding lessons and horse training as well as trail rides and day camps to the general public. Chaparral’s experience in working with on-site nonprofits aligns well with the education programs currently provided at Folger Stable by two nonprofits: the Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks and the San Mateo County Historical Association.
