Today, the Board of Supervisors accepted $3 million in grant funding from the California State Coastal Conservancy which will be used to facilitate the planning, permitting and design of visitor amenities at Tunitas Creek Beach. The agreement between San Mateo County and the Coastal Conservancy is an important step in the process of Tunitas being developed into a San Mateo County Park that can support accessible and safe visitation.

The planning phase of the project will soon begin with the selection of a consulting firm that will provide site planning and design services, environmental review and regulatory compliance for site improvements. The project will most likely include an accessible path to the beach, parking lot, and a vault-style restroom. The selected firm will collaborate with San Mateo County Parks to develop and implement community engagement plan that ensures the views of the broad San Mateo County.
