Use Caution When Hiking Pillar Point Bluff
Monday, March 6, 2017
The ongoing erosion at Pillar Point Bluff now threatens the Jean Lauer Trail, part of the California Coastal Trail. For the past several weeks, Park rangers have been monitoring cracks in the trail surface. Recent inspections show expansion and lengthening of cracks both close to the edge of the bluff and inward towards the Jean Lauer bench. Warning signs are posted. Please use extreme caution when walking on bluff trails—for your safety do not go around barriers posted by parks staff—and on the beach below the bluffs.
When hiking coastal trails, please be aware that conditions can change quickly. Take time to observe the area where you are walking. If you see cracks in the surface or slumping soil, change your course of travel and notify park rangers.
