Become a Volunteer Naturalist at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve
Monday, December 4, 2017
Friends of Fitzgerald Marine Reserve are sponsoring the annual 2018 Volunteer Naturalist Training Classes beginning February 3. Classes cover marine biology, ecology and interpretive strategies which will prepare you to become a Volunteer Naturalist. Training consists of 10 Saturdays plus an additional 6 hours spent at the Reserve with a mentor. Classes will be held near the Reserve and at the Reserve on: Feb 3, 10, 24; Mar 3, 10 17, 24; Apr 7, 4, 21 and 28. All classes are 5 hours in length.
FFMR Volunteer Naturalists assist visitors at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in many capacities: Working at the Visitors Center; helping to protect the harbor seal population; leading tours for school groups and other opportunities. But in order to join our group of dedicated volunteers, you must successfully complete the training classes. The need for volunteers at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is great and they work hard to provide excellent education for our volunteers.
Visit the Friends of Fitzgerald website for more information and to register.
Note: Demo tours are available to find out what it is like to be a docent. Docents must be physically capable to navigate the rocks and reef, and be over 17 years old.
