Join the Devil’s Slide Ambassador Program: We are recruiting for a new team of volunteers dedicated to the Devil’s Slide Trail. Trail Ambassadors will assist Park rangers by observing and reporting trail conditions and assisting trail visitors. The Ambassadors will be trained in radio use, the history of the trail and the wildlife that call the area home. For more information and an application, email cschoof@smcgov.org. Or, call (650) 599-1306.

Assist Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Visitors and Protect Marine Life: The Reserve is a popular destination that often attracts more than 1,000 people a day, especially when tides are very low. Now a Marine Protected Area, Park rangers and volunteers are working to educate visitors on how they can experience all that the Reserve has to offer through an observation only approach. New volunteer roles include Seal Monitors and Reserve Greeters. All volunteers will be trained so they can share information about animal and plant life at the reserve and understand safety procedures and radio use. To register, email cschoof@smcgov.org or call (650) 599-1306.

Become a Park Docent: You don’t have to be a park or nature expert to become a park docent. Several San Mateo County Parks are supported by volunteer docents who educate visitors about the unique features and history of the parks. All docents receive training and support before they lead groups. Consider sharing your love of our parks with visitors.

Wildflower Hike Docents, Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve: Lead free, three-hour long likes on weekend mornings, mid-march through mid-June. Docents complete seven evening classes that cover history, topography, geology, plant communities and wildflowers of Edgewood. Learn more and register at the Friends of Edgewood Docent Training page.

Folger Stable Docents, Wunderlich Park: Docents bring the world of the park and historic stable to life through three different programs:

    • Folger Stable Tours, every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon
    • Carriage Room Museum, every Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Folger Stable School Program, select Wednesdays during the academic year

Docent training is conducted year-round. For more information, visit www.huddartwunderlichfriends.org.
