Last November Peninsula Open Space Trust and San Mateo County Parks entered into a partnership to preserve 58-acre Tunitas Creek Beach after years of unmanaged use. The first steps to transform the location into a county park are in the works.

  • San Mateo County Park rangers and San Mateo County Sheriff Deputies are educating visitors about new regulations for the Beach that focus on safety and protection of the area. Citations have been issued for camping and other infractions. See Tunitas Creek Beach Regulations.
  • A Coastal Development Permit has been granted that gives San Mateo County Parks the ability to improve an existing road to be used by park staff and emergency responders. Because this road is solely for operations at this time, a gate will be installed.
  • Beginning week of June 18, the materials and equipment to be used for this first phase of improvements will arrive. The work is expected to continue until June 29.

Volunteers continue to help get Tunitas back to a healthy place once a month clearing trash left behind by visitors. If you want to join this dedicated group of volunteers, see the schedule of clean-ups.
