Join park rangers and docents on a series of hikes that combines exercise and the information about the park’s unique features and natural history. Take A Hike encourages individuals and families to discover a new park, reacquaint with a familiar park and enjoy the outdoors.
Due to the fantastic participation we've experienced, we're now holding this event twice each month, on a Saturday and a Wednesday. All hikes begin at 9am in the main parking lot of the selected park. After warm-up exercises, we start hiking at approximately 9:15am.
We'll continue to partner with Kaiser Permanente for the 2019 season. Before the hike, doctors will share tips on remaining active, how to prepare for your outdoor activity and avoid injury. Take A Hike is a member of the Healthy Parks, Healthy People Bay Area collaborative of Bay Area park agencies encouraging Bay Area residents to explore parks while improving their mental and physical health. Other sponsors include San Mateo Credit Union and the San Mateo County Parks Foundation.
Outdoor exercise news: A study conducted by researchers at Stanford University found that the benefits of walking in nature go beyond those of physical exercise. Read a New York Times article about the Stanford study and the positive effects walking in wooded and green environments can have on our mental well-being.
